Through compelling interviews, artistic animation and clever flash-points in popular culture, CODE documentary examines the reasons why more girls and people of color are not seeking opportunities in computer science and explores how cultural mindsets, stereotypes, educational hurdles and sexism all play roles in this national crisis. Expert voices from the worlds of tech, psychology, science, and education are intercut with inspiring stories of women who are engaged in the fight to challenge complacency in the tech industry and have their voices heard. CODE aims to inspire change in mindsets, in the educational system, in startup culture and in the wya women see themselves in the field of coding.”

Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, CyberLab HT230, High Tech Building, 20200 Observation Drive, Germantown, MD 20876

Ransomware is a unique class of malware that encrypts victim data and demands payment in return for the data’s unscrambling. In late 2015, researchers spotted more than 70,000 ransomware incidents in just one week. It is so malicious and difficult to defeat that during the same time period, the FBI recommended that victims of ransomware simply pay up. This new class of malware has been spreading aggressively and represents a revolutionary new stage in cybercrime. In this session, attendees will learn what ransomware is, why it is so effective, and why it will most likely dominate the threat landscape for several years to come. Attendees will learn about ransomware’s gradual evolution from non-encrypting to encrypting versions. They will also learn who is developing ransomware, how it is most commonly distributed, and why it is so difficult to defeat. The session will end by reviewing those innovative solutions and best practices that can help security professionals investigate and mitigate this new cybercrime threat.

Due to the convenience they provide, biometrics are now commonly integrated into smartphones, tablets, laptops and other devices. But what happens to your “fingerprint” after it has been captured? Can you trust the organizations you share your biometric with to safeguard it? In this presentation, attendees will learn what biometrics is, which biometrics are most commonly captured (and why) and what risks exist when using this technology.

Religious fundamentalism builds steadily in this clash of cultures. Inspiring excerpts from classical works by Porphyry, Plotinus, Aristotle and Plato are woven into the action to further the plot and add to the classical mood, while the events in the play are based closely on extant historical texts. Dance and music, including an Homeric hymn, add to the artistic texture. Hypatia of Alexandria was the most famous woman mathematician of antiquity, and her story is as relevant now as it was in her day.
A workshop performance is a full performance of the work, as it is being prepared for a FULL PRODUCTION.
Tickets will be available at either www.spotlighters.org or www.strand-theater.org

5426 Harford Road, Baltimore MD 21214

A young woman (Hypatia) in Roman Alexandria develops herself into a gifted geometer, mathematician and teacher, but her world is destroyed by the growing darkness and political strife that emerge.
Tickets will be available at either www.spotlighters.org or www.strand-theater. All tickets are PAY WHAT YOU CAN for this Workshop Performance!
