2019 Maryland STEM Festival Art Contest

The 2019 Maryland STEM Festival theme is Space and Flight in honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing on the moon and the 60th Anniversary of the opening of Goddard Space Flight Center. Space and Flight is also the theme of our Annual Art Contest. The contest runs from August 10th through September19th.

Requirements:

  • Art must be an original work from at Maryland student.
  • Students must be in grades K - 12, or a Maryland College or University.
  • Homeschool students may participate.
  • Artwork must be no larger than 14 inches x 11 inches.

There are four age categories:  Elementary School (K- 5), Middle School (6-8), High School (9-12) and College.

There will be two categories for each age group:

  • Art can represent the following media: drawing and painting (e.g. pencil, charcoal, pastels, colored pencils, oil paints, acrylics, water media, mixed media/collage)
  • Art can be photographs and or computer generated

Each entry must include:

  • Artist's first and last name
  • E-mail address
  • Grade
  • School
  • Title
  • Two sentence description of the artwork and how it is connected to Space and Flight.

must be received by September 19th.  Winners will be asked to send their original artwork for dispaly.  Winners may pick up their Art work after the Festival..

The prizes and number of winners for each category are as follows:

First Prize: $100 Amazon Gift Card (1 ), Second Prize: $50 Amazon Gift Card (2), Third Prize: $25 Amazon Gift Card (3)

Winning entries will be announced on October 19th at the STEM Parade in Bowie and displayed from November 3rd through 10th at the  NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's Visitor Center
