SUMMARY:Hackathon VI
DESCRIPTION:The Hackathon is an event where participating kids compete in cyber challenges including python coding\, password cracking\, internet browsing\, and more! The target ages for the event are 8-18\, and no previous coding knowledge is necessary! Participants will compete to earn swag and prizes as they learn about a broad variety of cyber security topics!\n\nThis year\, the event will be conducted 29 SEP\, 29 OCT\, and 16 NOV at Odenton Regional Library from 4:00 PM -> 6:30 PM. \n\nThe event is run by volunteering soldiers of the 780th Military Intelligence BDE\, stationed at Fort Meade\, MD. \n\n\n\nThere is no fee to participate. Participants are encouraged to register\, if max event participation is reached\, walk-ins may be turned away. Participants are encouraged to attend multiple or all event days in order to complete all the challenges available. Join us for four evenings of hands-on scientific discovery\, delicious refreshments\, and family fun at the Dorchester County Public Library.\n\nLed by a real scientist\, each event will feature a different exciting experiment that allows participants to explore scientific concepts by making observations\, testing ideas\, and discovering how science works in everyday life.\n\nWhether you are an aspiring scientist\, love creating things\, or simply enjoy asking "Why?" and "What if?"\, this series offers an opportunity to explore science in a welcoming\, engaging environment. And adults and children alike are welcome to join the fun!\n\nAll experiments\, materials\, and refreshments are provided at no cost. Advance registration is required. SUMMARY:Coding with Python (Ages 10-14)
DESCRIPTION:The Richard Montgomery High School robotics team\, Rocket Robotics\, is excited to offer a free\, 6-week coding course for middle school students\, designed to introduce beginners to the fundamentals of programming and spark interest in programming and robotics. This hands-on course will cover the fundamentals of coding using one of the most popular programming languages\, Python. Students will receive guided instruction over the 6-session course which will help them understand key concepts (such as basic Python syntax\, working with and manipulating data\, control structures like loops and if statements\, and creating reusable methods) and prepare them to further advance their coding skills.Experienced high school mentors will guide the participants\, providing personalized support and encouragement. With each session building on the last\, students will not only gain a solid foundation in Python programming that they can apply in robotics and other coding projects\, but also the confidence to explore further in the world of technology and robotics. Whether you’re new to coding or looking to strengthen your skills\, this course will provide a supportive and engaging environment to get started with Python.Students are requested to bring their own laptop computers if possible.
