SUMMARY:STEMFest 2026
DESCRIPTION:Discover the building blocks of artificial intelligence through hands-on play\, creativity\, and problem-solving at this interactive family event! Children and caregivers will explore how computers learn by recognizing patterns\, following instructions\, making predictions\, and learning through trial and error.\n\nThrough engaging activities\, families will discover that AI isn't magic—it's technology created by people. Kids will experiment with giving step-by-step instructions to a "robot\," train a pretend computer by sorting pictures into categories\, explore how computers recognize images and solve pattern challenges. \n\nFree\, no registration required

SUMMARY:Measure\, Make & Build: Veterans Day STEM Camp
DESCRIPTION:🗓️ Camp Options\nMorning Session: 9am–12pm • Recommended for ages 5–11 • $34\n\nAll-Day Session: 9am–5pm • Recommended for ages 7–11 • $58\n\nLocation: The Craft Lab at Because Science\, 1759 Columbia Rd NW\, Washington\, DC\n\n📏 Morning: Measure & Explore\nWe’ll start with playful games and drawing to get to know each other\, then investigate how and why we measure things.\n\nCampers will:\n\nMake their own calipers\, a tool for measuring an object’s dimensions.\n\nGo on a measurement scavenger hunt using rulers\, measuring tapes\, and calipers.\n\nTake on a paper-chain challenge: How long a chain can you build from just one sheet of construction paper?\n\nPractice describing observations\, comparing results\, and working together.\n\n🌉 Afternoon: Balance & Build\nAll-day campers will continue with engineering challenges designed for older kids:\n\nBuild a balance scale and explore how to compare weights.\n\nDesign and construct a bridge that can support different loads.\n\nTest their creations\, observe what happens\, and use what they learn to improve their designs.\n\n🎒 Drop-Off\, Lunch & Pickup\nDrop-off begins at 8:50am.\n\nLunch is 12pm–1pm. Please bring your own lunch; filtered water will be available.\n\nMorning campers may stay no later than 1pm.\n\nLunchtime is downtime. We'll supply legos and other simple projects to engage kids\n\nAll-day pickup is at 5pm.\n\nAt drop-off\, we’ll collect emergency contact and allergy information for campers new to Because Science.\n\n👩🔬 Meet Your Instructor: Lara Azar\nLara has been part of the Craft Lab at Because Science since July 2024\, bringing over two years of experience helping our community explore science through hands-on activities. She believes science should feel accessible and inviting\, and enjoys using questions\, games\, and creative projects to help learners build confidence and think critically.\n\nHer STEM education background includes working as a science educator at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry\, where she engaged visitors in activities covering science\, technology\, engineering\, and medicine. Lara also holds a master’s degree in Communication and Media Studies from the London School of Economics and has worked in media literacy education and research\, including at IREX. Her approach connects scientific curiosity with the skills to ask thoughtful questions\, evaluate information\, and explore ideas independently.\n🎟️ Cancellation Policy & Terms\nThe cancellation deadline is November 8\, 2026.\n\nRegistrations cancelled after November 8 are nonrefundable but transfers to other children or families are welcome\, just let us know. \n\nPlease get in touch if a situation arises\, as we may be able to make alternative arrangements.\n\nPlease note that the age ranges provided are an estimate so that you can select the camp that is appropriate for your child's abilities. We don't recommend the afternoon session for kids under 6 because they struggle to stay focused the entire day and can become upset. We can only accept children that can use the restroom independently. If a child is disruptive\, unable to regulate themselves\, or experiencing duress\, we will call you to request a pickup or to have an adult present to assist. Please let us know how we can make your child comfortable so they can enjoy the camp!\n\nQuestions? The fastest way is texting us at 571-549-8028 or emailing us at theCraftLab@BecauseScienceDC.com\nBy purchasing a ticket\, you agree to these terms. \n\nPurchase tickets on our website: https://becausesciencedc.com/products/measure-make-build-veterans-day-stem-camp-november-11-2026?variant=67638098362502 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrice:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Website\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\nMaryland STEM Festival \n\n\n\n\nOrganizer Website\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Categories
