Blue Collar STEM Conference

The Festival and BG&E will be presenting the 3rd Blue Collar STEM  will be held on November 9th at the IEC-Chesapeake Training Center to promote STEM jobs that require non-traditional training.    The Conference runs from 9:00 am to 2:15 pm. The purpose of the event is to address the desperate need of Industry for non-traditional STEM workers.  Non-traditional STEM workers are STEM workers who acquire their skills in manners other than through the traditional four-year college path.  This topic was discussed in depth in a recent National Science Board report The Skilled Technical Workforce .  The report states that by 2022, skilled technical job openings  will exceed available workers by 3.4 million.  The report recommends increasing awareness of these quality jobs to the general public to help resolve this issue.

The Conference will be increasing awareness of these jobs.  The Conference will have two tracks, one for adults and one for students.   The adult track will consist of five discussions or presentations.  The Keynote speakers are State Senator Cory McCray and Dr. Victor McCrary from National Science Foundations.  The student track will consist of a series of demonstrations and activities to teach them about different career fields.  Among the organizations participating in the Conference are Microsoft, Siemens,, Eaton and Howard Community College.

Event is Free,, but registration is required.  Lunch is provided.  Click here to register
