Join us for a visual presentation from NASA Solar Ambassador Dr. Cailtin Ahrens and scientist Ramin Lolachi to find out! For ages 6-10.Dr. Caitlin Ahrens is a graduate of West Virginia University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Geology and Physics with an emphasis in Astrophysics. Dr. Ahrens attended the graduate program in Space and Planetary Science at the University of Arkansas and received her PhD in May 2020 with her research on ices on Pluto. DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the 13th anniversary of the Maryland STEM Festival\, Gaithersburg Library is partnering with local teen robotics team\, 47 Beavers\, to bring you a STEM Fest Extravaganza!Come experience engineering challenges with hands on science stations and meet people who work in different STEM fields. Participants will learn about the structure of DNA and how genetic information is organized—all while constructing their own colorful DNA models using candy.As we twist\, pair\, and connect our sugary “nucleotides\,” we’ll dive into concepts like base pairing\, double helix design\, and why DNA is so important to living things.
