Join us for four evenings of hands-on scientific discovery\, delicious refreshments\, and family fun at the Dorchester County Public Library.\n\nLed by a real scientist\, each event will feature a different exciting experiment that allows participants to explore scientific concepts by making observations\, testing ideas\, and discovering how science works in everyday life.\n\nWhether you are an aspiring scientist\, love creating things\, or simply enjoy asking "Why?" and "What if?"\, this series offers an opportunity to explore science in a welcoming\, engaging environment. And adults and children alike are welcome to join the fun!\n\nAll experiments\, materials\, and refreshments are provided at no cost. Advance registration is required. DESCRIPTION:Registration is required. Space is limited. \n\n\n\nJoin us for an introductory robotics program presented by two Walter Johnson High School juniors! \n\n\n\nAs technology continues to shape our world\, skills in STEM—especially robotics\, AI\, and engineering—are becoming increasingly essential. At the same time\, learning these skills can be a fun and rewarding experience for kids. This program aims to: spark interest in STEM in our community\, while creating a space for children who may not be able to learn robotics on their own\, and to learn to work as a team to pursue a common goal! \n\n\n\nParticipants will: \n\n\n\n1st Session: Robot building\, overview of code blocks\, basic movement (turns\, speed adjustment) includes challenges like making a robot\, and a square shape with movement \n\n\n\n2nd Session: Sensors (sensors explained\, types of sensors\, uses of the sensors\, and then tasks in which sensors need to be used) \n\n\n\n3rd Session: Attachments (purpose of attachments\, different types of attachments\, attachment mechanics\, coding attachments) \n\n\n\n4th Session: Introduce and start working on the previous First Lego League challenges for the competition. SUMMARY:The Busy World of Squirrels! A Fall Nature Program
DESCRIPTION:Why are squirrels so busy in the fall? Come join us as we learn some facts about these nutty\, furry friends: their different varieties\, what they eat\, how they live\, how they prepare for winter\, and why they are important to nature. Then we'll meet a couple of squirrels featured in storybooks\, share in a singalong\, and finish with hands-on craft and coloring activities. Recommended for ages 3-8. \n\nProgram attendance is free. The program can accommodate 60 people. There is no registration. Tickets will be handed out on a first-come\, first-served basis.
