DESCRIPTION:Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors will learn about robots and programming while building a prototype with easily accessible materials. We will use software to explore robotic programming. Then\, the Scouts will showcase their creations to fellow roboticists for feedback. \nAdditional Information: \nSpace in the classroom is limited\, so we can only allow 1 adult in the classroom per group. That adult must be in the classroom at all times. \nAdmission to the exhibits is included for the scouts. Reduced admission can be purchased (day of the workshop) for any adults or family members who would like to visit the exhibits outside of the workshop. \nBadges are not included. They must be purchased from your organization.

Here’s what we have on tap: \n+ Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection – Watershed Restoration Division: Learn about our local waterways\, rivers\, lakes\, and streams and how our actions on land directly impact the quality of our water. Discover the types of bugs that are in our local streams and how they act as indicators of water quality. \n+ National Electronics Museum: See demonstrations of various electronics including HAM radios and learn about DIY projects. \n+ Natural History Society of Maryland: Check out the mobile Natural History Museum’s hands on activities\, along with live Reptiles and Amphibians courtesy of members of their Herpetology Club and MATTS. \n+ Echoes of Nature: Meet live animal ambassadors from a variety of species and learn how they have adapted to their environment over time. \n+ 355 Code: Have fun with artificial intelligence games. \n+ Dr. Jim Rudert: Our resident engineer and innovator will be demonstrating an Earthquake Simulator and a Decimal Binary Number Converter \n+ Rocket Robotics: This local high school robotics team will be leading some fun building activities\, sharing about robotics\, and offering the chance for visitors to drive a robot around an obstacle course.

SUMMARY:Coding with Python - A Six-Week Course
DESCRIPTION:The Richard Montgomery High School robotics team\, Rocket Robotics\, is excited to offer a free\, 6-week coding course for middle school students\, designed to introduce beginners to the fundamentals of programming and spark interest in programming and robotics. This hands-on course will cover the fundamentals of coding using one of the most popular programming languages\, Python. Students will receive guided instruction over the 6-session course which will help them understand key concepts (such as basic Python syntax\, working with and manipulating data\, control structures like loops and if statements\, and creating reusable methods) and prepare them to further advance their coding skills. \nExperienced high school mentors will guide the participants\, providing personalized support and encouragement. With each session building on the last\, students will not only gain a solid foundation in Python programming that they can apply in robotics and other coding projects\, but also the confidence to explore further in the world of technology and robotics. Whether you’re new to coding or looking to strengthen your skills\, this course will provide a supportive and engaging environment to get started with Python. \nStudents are requested to bring their own laptop computers if possible.
