SUMMARY:Leonardo Da Vinci Day
DESCRIPTION:Da Vinci Day is the BIT Center’s annual STEM and arts festival for middle and high school students. The event brings together schools\, educators\, community organizations\, local businesses\, and families for a day of hands-on learning inspired by the life and work of Leonardo da Vinci. Students participate in workshops\, engineering and design challenges\, interactive exhibits\, and presentations from professionals working in STEM\, the arts\, and related fields.\n\nThe centerpiece of the event is an interscholastic competition\, where student teams work together to solve a design challenge and present their solutions to a panel of professional judges. Teams will assemble the famous Da Vinci bridge out of wood. The winning team’s school receives a $1\,000 grant to support its STEM\, arts\, or innovation programs\, helping bring new opportunities back to the students.\n\nThroughout the day\, vendors and community partners host activities\, share resources\, and introduce students to educational and career opportunities. By connecting students with professionals and organizations from across the region\, Da Vinci Day encourages curiosity\, creativity\, and collaboration while celebrating the lasting influence of Leonardo da Vinci and the connections between science\, technology\, engineering\, art\, and Italian culture.

SUMMARY:Dinosaur Park Free Open House
DESCRIPTION:Dinosaur Park offers a free Open House event from 12-4 pm on Saturday October 17th\, during which the public can learn about the plants and animals that called Maryland home during the early Cretaceous Period (115 million years ago)! As part of this community science program\, participants are also invited to help us make new discoveries by assisting with fossil surface collecting. Please note that there is no actual digging during this program\, rather we simply scour the surface to see what new fossils have been exposed through natural erosion. This program does not require any prior registration. Participants will sign up on site. This program is entirely outdoors and weather dependent\, so please keep an eye on the weather and dress appropriately. Please check the Dinosaur Park website to confirm the program is not cancelled due to weather. \n\n\n\nThe October Open House theme is Maryland Fossil Symbols\, so we will also be highlighting Maryland’s three fossil state symbols: MD Fossil State Shell (Ecphora)\, MD State Dinosaur (Astrodon)\, and the MD State Shark (Megalodon). Learn about the intersection of science and society\, as we discuss the historical significance of these fossils and why we should all take pride in our Maryland fossil symbols.

SUMMARY:AI Explorers: Understanding Artificial Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:Artificial intelligence is changing the way we learn\, create\, communicate\, and solve problems. Join Wicomico Public Library for a four-part virtual series during the Maryland STEM Festival designed for tweens and teens ages 11–17. \n\n\n\nThrough interactive activities\, live demonstrations\, discussions\, and hands-on challenges\, participants will explore how AI works\, how chatbots are trained\, why AI sometimes gets things wrong\, and what responsible use of AI looks like. We’ll examine real-world examples of artificial intelligence and discuss the opportunities and challenges these technologies create for our future. \n\n\n\nThis is an online program \n\n\n\nParticipants may attend individual sessions or the entire series. Sessions will be recorded and made available on the library website. Saturdays: 10/17\, 10/34\, 11/7\, and 11/14 at 2:00.
