DESCRIPTION:The Chevy Chase Library elevator is currently out of service and undergoing modernization replacement. This program will be held in the downstairs meeting room\, and it will only be accessible by the stairs.Each month we gather to discuss how to improve teen services at MCPL and work on service projects. We offer free snacks\, SSL hours\, and often have guest speakers from the community on teen interests. Details about events are listed at least a month before the TAB meeting.This month we will be discussing what kind of STEM activities teens want to see at the library to create responsive and involved programming and having the teens help out with our October passive program of blind date with a book were they will help by decorating the wrapping paper and wrapping the books.Please fill out this volunteer form if you have not already and bring to the program. The form needs to be signed by a parent or guardian. Join Wicomico Public Library for a four-part virtual series during the Maryland STEM Festival designed for tweens and teens ages 11–17. Through interactive activities\, live demonstrations\, discussions\, and hands-on challenges\, participants will explore how AI works\, how chatbots are trained\, why AI sometimes gets things wrong\, and what responsible use of AI looks like. We’ll examine real-world examples of artificial intelligence and discuss the opportunities and challenges these technologies create for our future.  \n\n\n\nThis is an On-Line Program \n\n\n\nParticipants may attend individual sessions or the entire series. DESCRIPTION:The Richard Montgomery High School robotics team\, Rocket Robotics\, is excited to offer a free\, 6-week coding course for middle school students\, designed to introduce beginners to the fundamentals of programming and spark interest in programming and robotics. This hands-on course will cover the fundamentals of coding using one of the most popular programming languages\, Python. Students will receive guided instruction over the 6-session course which will help them understand key concepts (such as basic Python syntax\, working with and manipulating data\, control structures like loops and if statements\, and creating reusable methods) and prepare them to further advance their coding skills.Experienced high school mentors will guide the participants\, providing personalized support and encouragement. With each session building on the last\, students will not only gain a solid foundation in Python programming that they can apply in robotics and other coding projects\, but also the confidence to explore further in the world of technology and robotics. Whether you’re new to coding or looking to strengthen your skills\, this course will provide a supportive and engaging environment to get started with Python.Students are requested to bring their own laptop computers if possible. DESCRIPTION:The Masonville Cove Partnership invites you to join Birds of Urban Baltimore and  our bird banding studies on campus! See the bird banding process up-close\, and learn how urban greenspaces help migrating birds! Registration reserves your spot\, walk-ins welcomed.\n\nNote: Our schedule may change depending on weather conditions.\n\nBird banding staff arrive before sunrise\, and visitors are welcome to observe the banding activities beginning as early as 8:00 AM. Please note the Masonville Cove site otherwise opens regularly at 9:00 AM but bird banding staff will be able to assist with any needed building access if visiting for banding. Please sign in at the kiosk at the front right side of the Education Center when you arrive onsite. You can also inquire within the Education Center building regarding any additional questions on arrival\, or if restroom access is needed. Banding end times vary based on weather\, staffing\, and number of birds captured\, but usually ends before 1:00 PM. See the bird banding process up-close\, and learn how urban greenspaces help migrating birds! Registration reserves your spot\, walk-ins welcomed.\n\nNote: Our schedule may change depending on weather conditions.\n\nBird banding staff arrive before sunrise\, and visitors are welcome to observe the banding activities beginning as early as 8:00 AM. Please note the Masonville Cove site otherwise opens regularly at 9:00 AM but bird banding staff will be able to assist with any needed building access if visiting for banding. Please sign in at the kiosk at the front right side of the Education Center when you arrive onsite. DESCRIPTION:Dinosaur Park offers a free Open House event from 12-4 pm on Saturday October 17th\, during which the public can learn about the plants and animals that called Maryland home during the early Cretaceous Period (115 million years ago)! As part of this community science program\, participants are also invited to help us make new discoveries by assisting with fossil surface collecting. Please note that there is no actual digging during this program\, rather we simply scour the surface to see what new fossils have been exposed through natural erosion. This program does not require any prior registration. Participants will sign up on site. This program is entirely outdoors and weather dependent\, so please keep an eye on the weather and dress appropriately. Please check the Dinosaur Park website to confirm the program is not cancelled due to weather.  \n\n\n\nThe October Open House theme is Maryland Fossil Symbols\, so we will also be highlighting Maryland’s three fossil state symbols: MD Fossil State Shell (Ecphora)\, MD State Dinosaur (Astrodon)\, and the MD State Shark (Megalodon). Learn about the intersection of science and society\, as we discuss the historical significance of these fossils and why we should all take pride in our Maryland fossil symbols.
