SUMMARY:AI Explorers: Understanding Artificial Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:Artificial intelligence is changing the way we learn\, create\, communicate\, and solve problems. Join Wicomico Public Library for a four-part virtual series during the Maryland STEM Festival designed for tweens and teens ages 11–17. \nThrough interactive activities\, live demonstrations\, discussions\, and hands-on challenges\, participants will explore how AI works\, how chatbots are trained\, why AI sometimes gets things wrong\, and what responsible AI use looks like. We’ll examine real-world examples of artificial intelligence and discuss the opportunities and challenges these technologies create for our future. \nThis is an on-line program \nParticipants may attend individual sessions or the entire series. Sessions will be recorded and made available on the library website. Saturdays: 10/17\, 10/24\, 11/7\, and 11/14 at 2:00.

SUMMARY:Digging It with Science Heroes
DESCRIPTION:With help from audience volunteers\, we’ll conduct exciting experiments about the changing states of matter\, pressure\, and more — while raising a shovel to scientists who work with dirt! If you didn’t already love science\, you’ll really ‘dig it’ after seeing Science Heroes in action!

SUMMARY:FIRST in Motion: Maryland Robotics Showcase
DESCRIPTION:We are reaching out to ask if we can work together to host a showcase for FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams in Maryland to showcase our robots\, compete in scrimmages\, and share tips and tricks for the competition. We would love to collaborate to create a showcase event where teams can practice their skills\, operate robots\, and give advice while promoting STEM and robotics to the community. \nThere will be a loose schedule to organize the event and plan when each activity\, such as Q&As\, workshops\, and demos\, will take place\, and teams can sign up in advance to participate in some or all sessions. Spectators can walk in at anytime during the event to ask questions\, watch matches and robot demos\, and learn more about our mission and what the FIRST organization and the Maryland STEM Festival do to inspire others in STEM and robotics. Students who are interested in what we do can learn how to join and start teams\, and younger students can also drive robots and participate in LEGO engineering challenges. With these hands-on challenges\, students will stay engaged and excited while learning more about STEM opportunities in Maryland. We would be happy to work with you to organize dates\, locations\, and other details to make the event work with the Maryland STEM Festival.\nSome details about each event:\nRobot Demos: Teams will take turns driving their robots\, explaining how their robot works\, demonstrating some functions of their device\, such as an intake or scoring system\, and answering questions from others and allowing spectators to safely drive the robot.\n\nWorkshops: Each team will be allotted around 15-30 minutes to prepare a short presentation of a robotics topic of their choice\, such as game strategy\, CAD\, programming\, outreach\, and etc. Other teams and spectators can listen in and learn from one another. (If there are too many requests for workshops\, we may have to choose based on a lottery process or have multiple workshops going on at once.)\n\nQ&A sharing: Teams and spectators will get together\, ask each other questions\, exchange advice\, and discuss topics like robot design\, competition strategies\, programming tips\, outreach opportunities\, and etc.\n\nSpectator events (all are welcome!):\nLEGO/3D printing Engineering Challenges: Our team has prepared some games for all participants to join!\nSpectators are able to ask questions\, drive robots\, watch matches\, speak with team members\, and learn about opportunities to get involved in FIRST and STEM in Maryland.
