We are Montgomery County STEM Volunteer Program, a local non profit organization (501 c3) that places working and retired STEM professionals with MCPS teachers to bring the real world into the classroom to give students a better understanding of what they learn in the classroom and how it applies to the world around them. We are currently recruiting volunteers for the 2026-27 school year and will be holding our new volunteer training/information meeting on Oct 27, 2026, 9.00am-Noon via Zoom (Zoom link available on request). It’s time to put your photo and video editing skills to work! Come in and utilize library resources and edit your photographs and video with the help of a STEAM instructor. Register online!
We will build Lego models and then experiment and rebuild to get different results.
We will focus on Newton’s Laws with each build.
This will take the full hour so please make every effort to be on time.
Robots have been a fascinating part of both popular culture and technology for centuries… even from well before the use of the word “robot” itself! Today, they pervade the worlds of both science fiction and science fact, from “Robocop” to rovers on Mars. Join us as astronomer Rich Isaacman leads us on a journey from the earliest fictitious robots to the sophisticated electronic creatures currently exploring the very outermost reaches of our Solar System.
Whoooo knows what an owl eats? Dissect an owl pellet to find out! Explore other aspects of the life of an owl through other fun activities.
Tickets will be available 15 minutes before the start of class in the Children’s Area. Tickets required.

Join the library and Arundel Rivers Federation to get a hands-on demonstration of how we use STEAM to understand our rivers! Participants can test out a dissolved oxygen probe, a refractometer, and get a first hand look at a submersible ROV (remote operated vehicle) used for monitoring oyster reefs.
Build, test, and invent every Wednesday with a new challenge. Complete the challenge at your own pace utilizing materials such as LEGO, building cubes, circuits, paper and everyday craft supplies.
A spooky ghost is blowing through town with a powerful wind! Use your engineering skills to design and build a structure that can stay standing when the “ghost wind” blows. Ages 6-11.
